Hi, I’m Melissa.

I’m an artist who thrives at the intersection of structure and creative chaos. By day, I manage massive corporate projects. By night, I transform those linear, organized energies into vibrant, multi-layered visual stories.

My creative aesthetic is rooted in my background in graphic design, typography, and photography—heavily seasoned by years spent living across the Caribbean and Europe. I love playing with deep textures, complex patterns, and unapologetic, bold colors. My toolkit is diverse, spanning acrylics, watercolors, hand-crafted papers, and digital artwork.

Originally from North Carolina, my life has been a nomadic patchwork. I’ve called the US Virgin Islands, Barcelona, and Sitges home. Now, after a stint back in the Piedmont region of NC, my wife, our two dogs, and I are packing up our lives for our next great adventure: relocating to the Netherlands.

Returning to Dutch soil marks a thrilling new chapter for my art. I am incredibly energized to see how the famous, crisp northern European light, geometric landscapes, and historic canals will weave their way into my upcoming collections. Later this year, I'll also be launching a new blog at Intentionally Dutch to document our relocation journey, the chaotic logistics of moving pets across the world, and our new life abroad.

Over the years, my work has traveled just as much as I have:

• In Print: My design work has been published in Expressive Typography: The Word As Image and in NC State University’s literary and arts magazine, Windhover.

• In the Caribbean: I’ve exhibited widely across St. Croix, USVI, including the Art Thursday events, the LGBTQ Pride exhibitions, and the Emerging Artist's Show. In 2019, my piece 'Whole of the Moon' was selected as the signature branding for the 'Pride Thru Art' exhibition at the Caribbean Museum Center for the Arts.

• For a Cause: In 2017, I was honored to have an acrylic piece selected for The Ryan White Program's public campaign for HIV prevention, testing, and treatment.

• Back Home in NC: Most recently, I was the featured artist at SHUG's at Brooklyn South Square and had three pieces accepted into the 'Art For All I Am' exhibition at the Waterworks Gallery in Salisbury, NC.

Currently, you can find my original pieces locally on St. Croix at Undercover Books and the Caribbean Museum Center for the Arts.

Whether I’m painting on a literal canvas or a digital one, I am always chasing the inspiration left behind by my travels. I can't wait to share this next chapter with you as I set up my new Dutch studio.
